More than a dozen people are missing after a tourist boat sank within the Red Sea off the coast of Egypt, officers have mentioned.

The boat, Sea Story, was carrying 45 people, together with 31 vacationers of various nationalities and 14 crew.

Authorities are looking for 17 people who’re nonetheless missing, the governor of the Red Sea area mentioned on Monday, including that 28 people had been rescued.

The vessel was half of a diving journey when it went down close to the coastal city of Marsa Alam.

Officials mentioned a misery name was acquired at 5.30am native time on Monday.

The boat had departed from Port Ghalib in Marsa Alam on Sunday and was scheduled to succeed in its vacation spot of Hurghada Marina on 29 November.

The incident comes after the Egyptian Meteorological Authority issued a warning on Saturday about turbulence and excessive waves on the Red Sea.

The organisation had suggested towards maritime exercise for Sunday and Monday.

Some tourist corporations have stopped or restricted operations on the Red Sea as a result of potential risks from conflicts within the area.
